Taking Yoga & the Paddle-board to the Lake

Hello, Friends & Fellow Yogis!

One of my favorite things to do in the Summer is visit my In-Laws’ place in Muskoka because it’s located right in the midst of the most beautiful scenery in Ontario! Well, that’s just my opinion, of course πŸ˜‰ Since visiting here on my first trip to Canada almost 7 years ago, I have fallen in love with the local #lakelife and even taken up paddle boarding as a hobby! For my birthday a few years ago, my husband and his parent’s got me my very own board, and I use it every chance I get!

And since one of my favorite things in life is yoga, it was only a matter of time before the two became one! We’ll just keep on the favorite train, and I’ll walk you through some of the poses I enjoy doing most when on the lake, or on my board.

1. Mermaid Pose

This picture is obviously a *major* variation of the usual mermaid pose that you often see yogis doing on the beach or on a mat by the ocean. Something about the salty air just puts me in the mood to unleash my inner mermaid! It’s super hard to do on my paddle board, which yes is my favorite water activity πŸ™ŒπŸΌ but my board isn’t very stable, so yoga isn’t really feasible for this one!

2. Crow Pose

Because the moment I first landed this pose, I felt invincible… so naturally, I do it everywhere πŸ™ŒπŸΌ It’s a great balancing pose that seems to use a lot of muscles you might not think you need for this one. The key here is really just overcoming your fears. The most common fear in those pose is the fear of falling on your face. Funny, because that’s pretty much our worst fear in life, metaphorically speaking… once you release that fear, you realize that you’re stronger than you thought!

3. Back Bend

Another Paddle board favorite is the backbend! It doesn’t require too much balance, mainly strength and flexibility. Honestly, I think this one is a little easier on the paddle board, compared to a yoga mat on a hard surface.

4. Head Stand

This one is tricky on a dock, and I wouldn’t recommend it without a towel or a mat for support. The good thing here is if I fall, I’m just going in the lake πŸ˜‰ Thankfully though, I didn’t πŸ™ŒπŸΌ

Spending a few days at the lake has been the best way for us to celebrate Canada Day weekend! What did you do this weekend? I’d love to hear all about it in the comments 😘
